Cost and availability of LG spare parts
Parts supply in New Zealand is very good. For anything you might break (like a fridge shelf, drawer or basket), you will usually find it in stock at Need A Part. If it's not in stock, it's usually available within a week from LG New Zealand. In some cases parts need to come from LG Australia, but this is still pretty quick compared to other brands.
LG fridge/freezer parts are priced similar to other brands. Parts like baskets, bins and drawers are a little more expensive than Mitsubishi and Panasonic, but cheaper than Sharp, and comparable to Samsung.
Known issues with LG fridge/freezers
Based on the types of spare parts we sell for LG fridge/freezers, there don't appear to be any recurring issues. The best-selling parts are glass shelves and plastic bins; the sorts of things that can be broken accidentally on any brand if fridge/freezer.
Ongoing costs
Most LG fridge/freezers need their water and air filters replacing regularly. LG's fridge filters are among the cheapest of all fridge brands, and there are even cheaper generic replacements available if you don't need the originals.
So, are LG fridge/freezers any good?

From our perspective, LG is the one of the best fridge/freezer brands for parts availability, and the cost of both parts and consumables is very reasonable.
